The hotel's old name was the Dumpling Inn because of the annual custom of eating dumplings in broth. In the early 20th century there were still many thatched cruck-built cottages, but now this is a village beloved by rich commuters. Its windmill has been restored by Dr J Ward. The village green is the largest in the Fylde and is graced by a duck-pond and the original village pump (other pumps were melted down and used for jointing new water mains by the Fylde Water Board).
